Cricket has been played in Horningsham at least since 1861, when the Warminster Herald reported on a match against Longbridge Deverill, a two innings game that ended in a tie, with Longbridge Deverill all out for 52 in their second innings chasing 53 to win. This was probably an under arm game, being played three years before over arm bowling was legalised in 1864.

In the 1950s and 1960s the home ground was by Longleat House. It moved to its present location behind the Village Hall in 1977.

Today the club plays roughly 60 games a year, up to three times a week, all friendlies, supported by a large pool of players of all ages from 13 to 78, all abilities, and both men and women. The matches are mostly in Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset, but the club can easily be tempted to travel further to play on a beautiful ground; it frequently tours Devon, Cornwall and Northumberland, and has also travelled to Scotland and recently Thailand. The club does not play league cricket, finding the atmosphere too competitive, and in conflict with the club's ethos that having fun is more important than winning. The squad includes twelve players who live in Horningsham, a further six who used to, five more who have connections through work or school, a dozen like minded friends from Frome, Warminster and other nearby villages, and any number of ringers when we are short.
