Accessibility & This Website

Accessibility statement for Horningsham Parish Council

We are committed to making our website accessible to all.

Horningsham Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. We are continuously improving this website to ensure that it meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines issued by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). The WAI website content guidelines, published in 2008 by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), are the globally used and accepted standard for website accessibility, by both the corporate and public sector.

https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/wcag/

Currently, this website is not compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2(opens new window) AA standard. We are working with our website provider to improve the site to achieve compliance. The non-compliances that have been identified to date are listed below.

Non-accessible content

Some images do not have a text alternative, so people using a screen reader cannot access the information. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content).

All functionality of the content is not operable through a keyboard interface without requiring specific timings for individual keystrokes, except where the underlying function requires input that depends on the path of the user's movement and not just the endpoints. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1 Keyboard Accessibility

We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
  • zoom in up to 400% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using a keyboard or speech recognition software
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

While we’ve done a lot to ensure this site’s accessibility, we know some parts of this website are not fully accessible.

You cannot modify the line height or spacing of text.

Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software. Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards

Whilst we always aim to communicate clearly and as simply as possible, some of the content may require a reasonable level of

technical understanding due to the nature of a Parish Council’s business and related governance procedures.
The site has been created using a well coded, professional content management system but it has not been user-tested by those with a disability.
The site has been cross-platform and cross-browser tested and is currently compatible with modern browsers. We provide a site which has been designed and coded to achieve an AA level of compliance.

This website has been developed to serve the largest possible audience, using the broadest range of systems and to consider any needs that users with disabilities might have.

As several organisations have already produced lots of very good content about how to make computers and websites more     accessible, we have linked to these sites rather than duplicate their content.
