Our Councillors
The Council Team is the first level of governance in Horningsham Parish.
Parish councillors have two main roles:
- Representing residents' views and concerns to the Parish Council and the unitary authority.
- Reporting back to residents on parish issues.
Councillors perform these duties by attending meetings and corresponding with the parish clerk. They may participate in committees but cannot make decisions independently. The chairman has specific responsibilities for managing formal meetings. Listening and
engaging with residents, including local elected members, requires significant time. "Rules of behaviour" apply during all councillor activities.
Completing a register of interests is necessary to adhere to the code of conduct. In small rural parishes, the risk of conflicts of interest is higher. Maintaining distance from local lobby groups, especially in planning matters, is important for councillors who are also part of the local planning authority.

If you have a problem or concern about something locally, get in touch with the Parish Clerk who will be able to advise you as to how you should proceed.
It may be that it is something that the Parish Councillors can do or it may be that a particular issue needs to be raised with another body.
Whatever the way forward, the Parish Clerk will be able to offer you advice. In the meantime, if you have something you’d like to tell the Parish Council about just contact the Clerk. The Clerk is available Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 4.00pm.
